I had a phone call from my brother Daniel on Thursday morning last week asking me if I was busy at the weekend? Ive got Gary coming round to decorate but I wasn’t up to much.
Then he asked if I wanted to go to Kiev to see the Euro 2012 final.
I had to think about it less than a second before saying yes.
A mate of his won two return flights to Kiev, 2 nights accommodation, transfers and 2 tickets to see the final.
We both thought it was a wind up, right up until we checked in at Gatwick.
What a weekend it was!!!
We got there Saturday night to be told that Elton John and Queen were performing in the Fan Zone right outside our hotel. We couldn’t see much and managed to track down some tickets for €100 to get us into the reserved area. What a brilliant gig that was, amazing!!!
Then came The Final on Sunday night, between current holders Spain and Itlay
We got to the stadium early and soaked it all up.
Our Ensign flag with a smaller Pompey flag on it went up behind one of the goals.
The seats were brilliant, the closing ceremony was awesome, but the match was something else.
Spain 4-0 Italy was the final score.
The atmosphere was electric at the end, with fireworks being shot from the roof of The Olympic Stadium.
I still can’t believe we were there…….
